Scrivener App Details

*** Featured in App Store Best of 2016 *** “The biggest software advance for writers since the word processor.” —Michael Marshall Smith, bestselling author Typewriter. Ring-binder. Scrapbook. Scrivener combines all the writing tools you need to craft your first draft, from nascent notion to final full stop. Tailor-made for creating long manuscripts, Scrivener banishes page fright by allowing you to compose your text in any order, in sections as large or small as you like. Got a great idea but don’t know where it fits? Write when inspiration strikes and find its place later. Grow your manuscript organically, idea by idea. Whether you plan or plunge, Scrivener works your way: meticulously outline every last detail first, or hammer out a complete draft and restructure later. Or do a bit of both. All text sections in Scrivener are fully integrated with its outlining tools, so working with an overview of your manuscript is only ever a tap away, and turning Chapter Four into Chapter One is as simple as drag and drop. Need to refer to research? In Scrivener, your background material is always at hand. Write a description based on a photograph. Reference a video or PDF. Check for consistency with an earlier chapter. On the iPad, open two documents side-by-side; on the iPhone, flip between research and writing with just two taps. Once you’re ready to share your work with the world, simply compile everything into a single document for printing, or export to popular formats such as Word, PDF, Final Draft or plain text. You can even share using different formatting, so that you can write in your favorite font and still keep your editor happy. • Great app, but dark mode is problematic

    By cmyknate
Overall, this app is a great port to iOS. The only real issue I have with it is dark mode. The contrast is so low that I have a hard time seeing it without cranking up the brightness—and I have really good vision. I couldn’t imagine how it must be for people who have visual contrast problems. Having pure white text against a dark(er) gray background would fix this problem, and it wouldn’t look worse. In fact, it would look better because I could actually see what I am writing.
  • Great for putting manuscripts together

I have the iPad version. It has all the tools I need, and the organization and file management that is lacking in the Pages app. The only negative I have found is the text selection tool. It is way too touchy. It really is maddening trying to select a particular text. I have e-mailed the developer regarding this, but never got a response. I am looking forward to seeing an improvement here. It really is the only thing that keeps it from being a perfect writing app.
  • Ridiculously great

    By Champion.#2
Love this app. Organizing larger projects used to intimidate me and therefore tamped down my enthusiasm. But Scrivener takes pretty much whatever you throw at it in terms of research, random thoughts and so on. Organize as you wish (or not). And all the while the same project holds your precious draft, clean and separate from the frenetic research whirlwind. And I’m amazed at the feature set in the iOS App. I’d expected a watered down version compared to the OSX App but it’s very thorough (I generally use iPad Pro as my iOS tool of choice).
  • Disappointed: No iCloud Sync

By I create therefore I am.
Wow I really wish I hadn’t assumed iCloud sync was included.
  • trying to get around and kind of like it

one star is reserved when I finally get the hang of it. the big picture in mind is that it might be a perfect private assistant, which i need badly in delivering the ideas clearly and in a fun way. I can talk with eloquence and i believe in my ability of expression capturing subtle or hidden ideas, but i need some kind of help in complicated structures.
  • Limits where you can save files

    By RayHanania
Most of my files are on iCloud but the iPad system only recognizes Dropbox which is the worst storage cloud because it eats up space on your hard drive .... the MacBook Pro version is good but the inability to connect the two creates real problems
  • Bewildering App to use for first time on iPad

    By judynini
Its literally taken me DAYS to figure out how to buy this . My Mac crashed and I purchased a version again only to discover I need a different version for IPAds/. Paid AGAIN, finally loaded it, opened it, and have spent the last few hours trying to understand how on earth to write a screenplay with it. How to write ANYTHING on it. Even after reading the tutorial and finding about what sounds like the very useful outliner, Corkboard, I really am bewildered about how to go forward. It says somewhere that it may be difficult for those who haven’t used the full Laptop version, but this is like landing on Mars. I am, as I type, downloading Final Draft which I suspect I will have better luck with. I’m sure its fantastic as I hear it is from friends, but the developers have made little effort to make first users intuitively find their way around it. It assumes we all have and use the full versions of it elsewhere. And don’t get me started on the tutorial which is definitely written by an aspiring Novelist... it goes on, and on, and on and on, more like a manual to assemble a car than a guide on how to use a writing app.
  • Scrivener Does It All

    By Astrophysics Junkie
Scrivener is often billed as a drafting tool, but that’s not at all accurate. Scrivener does it all. You can use it to lay out a story or academic piece scene by scene, thought by thought, and go into each item and build on them working in any order. Scrivener makes it easy, and it doesn’t stop there. You can use it to polish too and come to a final draft. If you are passionate about writing then you must own this app. It’s undervalued, not overpriced.
  • Awesome software!

I enjoy the ease of using the app. It simplifies the process of collecting thoughts into a usable outline. I also enjoy the ability to transfer the project to multiple devices.
  • Great app!

Great app that lets me stay super organized while writing. I'm still getting used to it but it has a lot to offer. I've never used the desktop version, so now I'm curious!
