  • PrivateTunnel is the best yet.

I used TunnelBear for a year, and I’ve had ProtonVPN, but PrivateTunnel tops them all so far. My biggest concern with VPNs is consistency of the connection. I don’t worry much about speed, or about where a VPN service is located. I just want a consistent connection, and I want the VPN to reconnect if things do go bad. PrivateTunnel stays connected longer, and reconnects more quickly and automatically, than any of the several other VPNs I’ve tried. PrivateTunnel isn’t for you if you’re breaking the law online, but it gives me the level of privacy I want, at a great price.
  • Don’t typically do this. . .

But, all the negative reviews on this app? Are we sure it’s not user error or network configuration issues or something and not actually in any way related to the functionality of this app? If you have a PrivateTunnel subscription and are logged in, it’s as simple as choosing your virtual server and clicking the big green ‘connect’ button. At least in my experience. The OpenVPN connect app is pretty good, too. If, for example, you have a lifetime plan at ‘AcmeVPN’ and are able to access the OpenVPN configuration files for the service, it’s easy to import them into the OpenVPN connect app (at least it has been since the latest update: That app was not without problems importing valid credentials not too long ago). That app works great now. I have dozens of config files in my Connect app (including the ones I downloaded from my portal, the ones used by this app) and they all work. I can pick the different IP, UDP vs TCP, etc. Plus, it allows you to use the OpenVPN protocol with the ‘AcmeVPN’ service you’re already paying for anyway. Otherwise you’re stuck using the default iOS IKEv2 (not that that’s inherently bad). I digress.
  • Doesn’t work

It quit working over a month ago. They said a “build” wasn’t working and a fix would be out the next day. That was 2 weeks ago- it still doesn’t work. They no longer respond to my requests for help but they managed to send me a bill to renew the subscription (they charge monthly). I cancelled.

Private Tunnel won't provide me with any way to delete it from my iPhone! Deleting the app doesn't get rid of the profile and I can't delete it manually!!!
