Natural Cycles - Birth Control App Details

Introducing digital birth control. A natural method of birth control that uses a smart algorithm to learn your cycle and identify your ovulation by analyzing your basal body temperature. Natural Cycles is for women over the age of 18. Natural Cycles does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Natural Cycles is only available as a method of birth control in the USA and Europe. In countries outside the USA and Europe, Natural Cycles is intended to be used as a fertility tracker. Natural Cycles is 93% effective under typical use, which means that 7 women out of 100 get pregnant during 1 year of use.* No method of contraception is 100% effective, even when using the app perfectly you can still have an unintended pregnancy. Natural Cycles shows you: ○ How your unique cycle works ○ Daily updates on where you are in your cycle ○ When you are in the fertile phase of your cycle and need to use protection (e.g. condoms) ○ When your ovulation is detected and predicted ○ When your period is coming up and when you can expect PMS ○ The science behind your menstrual cycle Natural Cycles is: ○ The first digital method of birth control available in both the USA and Europe ○ Backed by scientific research ○ CE marked & FDA cleared Pricing Plans: Yearly plan: 79.99 USD/year. Free thermometer included. Monthly plan: 9.99 USD/ month. Thermometer not included. Free trial: 30 day free trial. Thermometer not included. To use the app you need a two-decimal basal thermometer. Precautions: ○ As a contraceptive, Natural Cycles may be less suitable for you if you have irregular menstrual cycles (i.e. cycles shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days) and/or fluctuating temperatures as predicting fertility is more difficult in these circumstances. Natural Cycles’ effectiveness as a contraceptive is not affected by irregular cycles, but you will experience an increased number of red days, which can reduce your satisfaction with Natural Cycles. ○ Natural Cycles does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Use a condom to protect against STIs. Want to learn more about Natural Cycles? • The thermometer

I'm trying to plan a pregnancy and I haven't used this app long enough to really have an opinion on the effectiveness yet. But I do have opinions about the thermometer. First of all, this company startes that the thermometer will remember your previous reading, which it will, but it only flashes your previous reading for about one second. Which leads me to my second point. There is no back light on this thermometer. So, if you don't have perfect light and are searching around to be able to see the screen, likely you're going to miss what your previous reading was. A third option that would take care of both of these things would be to make a thermometer that automatically synced your reading to the app. So, those would be my two fixes. Make the previous readings stay on the screen longer, and add a back light. Or, make it sync directly to the app. It's a pretty basic thermometer for $80....
  • DO NOT PAY $80 — No Free Version

I dont care how good this app is, unless $80 is like losing a $5 on the street for you, please dont buy. Thats a ridiculous amount for a contraceptive method thats been around longer than the concept of a telephone. Use a free one, buy a $5 thermometer, use your phone calendar and google “natural cycle contraception”. Use the free trial if you want to get a feel for how that works and then remember to CANCEL the subscription. Ridiculous pricing.
  • I am loving this app.

This type of birth control works best for me in this stage of life. I am married in a committed relationship and I am extremely diligent in taking my temp and filling in information everyday. It works great! I have been using it for 9 months and no baby. I am really learning my body better. We have enjoyed this hormone free birth control option. I used to take the pill and it makes me sick, gain weight, and very emotional. I’m glad there is another option. But you have to do your part and keep up with taking your temp everyday and putting it in the app.
  • Not worth it

Not only do you have to pay monthly for something other apps offer for free, but you can even import historic data from HealthKit.
  • Love this app.. just being picky

This is great and so much better than hormonal birth control. I feel much more in tune to myself and how my body is supposed to work. I do wish that it had a place to record other symptoms, similar to the period tracking apps.. acne, bloating, cramps, discharge, and other stuff like that. Nevertheless, I’ve loved it so far!

I had to stop taking hormonal birth control due to medical issues and wanted to find something reliable. I really like this app and it’s easy to use.
  • Exactly What I Wanted

I used to use birth control pills, but my husband and I were never really in love with the idea of hormonal birth control. We tried doing NFP by ourselves and realized we needed some help after being pleasantly surprised by our beautiful daughter. Natural Cycles does all the work for us and has helped us both really get to know my body. It’s been extremely accurate, effective, and easy to use. I can’t speak about it highly enough!
  • Ridiculously Accurate

Can’t say enough good about this app. Every time it’s predicted ovulation, PMS, period onset, my body is in sync with the predictions. It even caught a late cycle brought on by stress / illness! It’s also great that the app is backed by research ( a quick Google Scholar search will help you find the company’s 2016 paper on NC). My only recommendation is to ditch the thermometer they send (not accurate) and get a more accurate one from amazon. But overall, Natural Cycles is a lifesaver and it’s well worth the money.
  • Horrifying

This is a blatant scam. This is absolutely not an effective way to prevent pregnancy, and the fact that they promote it as such is reprehensible. No legitimate doctor would advocate for the use of this app as a form of birth control. Obviously.
  • So easy!

I practice NFP and I love this app! It’s really easy to use. We’re trying to avoid pregnancy and this app has definitely helped us be successful! I would recommend it to anyone trying to get pregnant or trying to avoid.
