Okay, I must admit that the cost and my experience with kids learning apps was the reason I delayed. We are in the trial period and I am amazed. My son is a wiggler. He wants to speed through the instructions with his kindergarten teacher, so he ends up doing some of the sheets twice.
We spend 30 minutes together doing Homer each day. I have seen an improvement in his sounding out words. I never had phonics in school, and I love the way it works on short vowel sounds. He loves taking the monkey from one tree to the banana tree via vines that have words on the leaves. He has to pick the word that the app tells him. The greatest thing is when he reads a whole story by recording one sentence at a time. If he gets stuck on a word he can touch it and it will help him. He is so proud he is reading. He even goes and gets other books so he can read to me. He gets sight words on Homer that correlates to words he is getting in school. He even has added reviewing his school site words from school because he has gained so much confidence in his abilities.
If this isn’t enough to persuade me, I look at the books available to students through Scholastic. I could spend the monthly fee for Homer on these books, or spend it on Homer and go to the library. I have recommended this to a friend and I plan on showing it to my sons teacher.
Update: I have contacted Homer 2 times with issues. Their customer service is excellent. The first time was minor, and the second time I couldn’t get into Jaiden’s Pathway. They corrected the problem with an update, keeping me informed by email. To my surprise, they sent me an App Store gift card for $10 for missing approximately 5 days of Homer. In a world where customer service is disappearing, this is fantastic.

Crash crash crash
It crashes so fast I can’t even unsubscribe. TOTAL SCAM.
Not only is this astronomically expensive, but the videos my kid likes to watch don’t even play anymore. The app either freezes, takes forever to load, or straight up doesn’t play half the videos. My daughter loves this app when it’s working, but when it’s not, she’s crying and upset, and then I have to figure out how to explain to her why it won’t play (which I don’t know the answer to).
Canceled subscription keeps charging me!
It keeps charging me 7.99 even though I canceled my subscription!! Reading through negative comments this seems to be a common problem, beware!
It’s not working

I’ve had the app for a while and my daughter loved playing with it. However recently the screen freezes after 2-4 minutes and stops working completely. It is upsetting because it’s not cheap either.
Lot of technical problems
This app loads very slow and crashes while using application.
I don’t recommend this app.

We’re doing the free trial and I was considering not canceling my subscription because my son loves playing it but every time we try to open it lately, it freezes. I’ve updated the app, restarted my phone and it still does it - quite frustrating.
The app was working well until last week and now it’s hanging. When it doesn’t hang it refuses for us to pass to the next level. We’ve updated the ipad and app but no luck. Tried reporting the problem but it says I need to link an email address to the account before I can report a problem. When I try and add my email it says I can’t add an email because the account already has one. So I’m stuck with an app that doesn’t work and no way to report or fix it. Very sad

My 3 year old son loves this app. He usually picks this app before YouTube or Dave and Ava. He likes the story mode a lot along with the painting and color mode.
App is crashing
The app was working great until the latest update. It keeps “loading” the profiles and crashes. Please fix ASAP, my children enjoy this app. Once it’s back up again I will give it a higher rating. Thank you!
