App Reviews

  • Pass on this one

The navigation is just too difficult to deal with, the student's pronunciation is horrific, and customer support is nonexistent. I purchased all of the program in the hopes it would get better. It didn't. Overall rating: One star or less.
  • Please start over - The instructor is just too unbearable.

I rarely write reviews or complain about a purchase. You usually just charge it to the game so they say, but this one. I am writing this review in hopes that they recreate it and improve it. I like the fact that you get to buy by the hour as opposed to dropping the full price in one go, but the app is just plain clunky. It should be easier to navigate the lessons, come on it just plays audio. Make it easier to navigate. The chinese version - I enjoy the michel thomas method and a true believer. With that said the guy doing the audio on this is terrible. I bought the first three hours and cannot get passed hour one. He uses way too much NLP imagery "Dip your V shape fingers into the red delicious watermelon and pull back up pieces of the juicy red fruit." That irked the hell out of me. There has to be another way of explaining tones. I hope someone esle will create another mandarin chinese lesson, I would re-buy it because I really want to learn it and think the michel thomas method would do it. I just can't the stomach current instructor.

I am not as happy with this language app as I am with the Michel Thomas Method: Greek because this one does not use the same native speaker the whole time, therefor I get the feeling of the narrator knowing nothing of the language and therefor not being able to explain tricky things like pronouncing "sh" in 是. (In case you're wondering, my Chinese friend says that to pronounce it correctly, move the tip of your tongue to the top of your gum or the roof of your mouth and then say the "sh" sound.)
  • I love this app!

Fantastic app! Great, discounted way to get a strong feel for the Michel Thomas method and Mandarin. I am amazed at the method. It's like the language is being "installed" into my brain. I knew nothing about Mandarin prior to this. I don't stress about learning, I just enjoy it. I listen, pause, re-listen, start over, all as I need. It's a pay-as-you-go plan basically. I am very thankful this is available. My one critique is that I had to figure out some of the controls and it's a bit awkward trying to specify where I want to go back to. I would appreciate a simpler interface or a forced tutorial. I say forced because I was so excited to start there may have been a tutorial and I just blew by it. If, however, there is no tutorial then having a tutorial would be nice. This is a VERY minor critique and something I can overlook without problem and use with very little frustration.
