App Reviews

  • Simply the best

    By T Lin
The dev, Shifty Jelly, have been at it in the podcasting business a lot time. And their full-featured Pocket Casts app is what they have to show for it. It will not disappoint. I consider it simply the best podcast app out there. If you listen to podcast while on a desktop computer, I’d also recommend you try their web app. Pocket Casts sync with it creating a fully integrated seamless user experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. So good. :-) ___________________ My old review (mostly still relevant, ‘cept the cons have been addressed to my satisfaction!) I see the negative reviews as those that find change hard to deal with. Yes, the new Pocket Casts takes some getting use to. But, give it some time and the user experience is worth it! Outstanding job, Shifty Jelly! ORIGINAL REVIEW (pre-v3): As a former Podcaster user, I am very impressed with my overall experience in using Pocket Casts. PROS: + aesthetically pleasing UI + faster, more reliable push (than Podcaster) based on my experience + flexible playback controls (big rewind/FF buttons, 1x/1.2x/1.5x/2x playback speeds) + chapter support (image changes with each chapter if podcast author provides for it, of course) + Dev is very responsive to user issues/feedback CONS: - Podcast Cleanup Management needs to have an auto customizable option - I'm not crazy about the new v2 icon (liked the older one better)
  • Solid but can’t recommend

    By squalamack
I find the UI to be convoluted but that is more subjective. But it really should have audio effects when streaming (other players do) and list podcast with unplayed episodes near the top—I have little interest in filters, playlists, and so on. Unless you need to sync to Android I’d recommend Castro or Overcast.
  • Practical tools and lovely design - best app out there

    By Hard-Hitting Levine
I switched to this app after the iOS update made the Apple podcasts interface too inefficient to use. Pocket Casts has a really pleasant design with all the necessities, plus the ability to create custom filters for your podcasts (eg unplayed or unfinished+downloaded+released in the last month), ability to star episodes, and a robust settings menu for modifying automatic downloads, lengths for the skip forward/back controls, data usage, light/dark theme, etc.
  • Does the job

Gives me back control of my listening experience and restores options Apple Podcasts has recently removed. I wish there was an option to save an episode (exempt it from deletion) and an option to add the episode I’m currently listening to to the queue again (when I want to listen to something else first then come back to it later) but I’m still learning all the options so there may be workarounds. Using this app I feel like I’ve regained my freedom.
  • My new fav

In iOS 10 I was perfectly happy with apple podcasts app. No more. After looking at five options, this one is my choice because of the UI, and because they have setting options I like. I am planning on regularly using the Apple Watch app so that definitely helps me. Thx Pocket Casts
  • My go-to Podcast app - sync issues remain

    By m.t.majeski
Pocketcasts became my go-to podcasting app when they released their app for Windows Phone. I continued to use it once I switched to iOS. I also paid for the web player access as well (totally worth it). However I have found syncing between devices to be unreliable. If I start an episode on my phone and then move to another device -pressing play on an iPad or the web player will start at the beginning. If I unsubscribe from a podcast on my phone, it is very rare that this will be reflected on the web player. I also wish you could listen to individual episodes of a podcast / view past episodes without having to subscribe. Still hoping for an AppleTV app as well!
  • Unstable, frustrating

    By dapjang
Really tried to like this one, but podcasts randomly skip or stop playing for downloaded podcasts and after upgrading to iOS 11, this app crashes my phone.
  • Having an issue, though

    By MarcioQuelhas
I am having an issue when playing several podcasts from the playlist. The current podcast is played until its end but then the next podcast is not started. When I look back in the queue, the first podcast is on pause and the bar, that shows the elapsed time, is back on half the duration of the podcast, approximately. I need to remove it from the playlist in order for the subsequent podcast to be played. This is happening several times with different podcasts.
  • Carplay

    By erickjcastro
Great app! The app doesn't seem to work with carplay anymore?
  • The best podcast app

    By becaqua
There is no better podcast app on the app store. This is the most organized, easy to use, and reliable app on the app store for listening to podcasts. The way that the podcasts are layed out in front of you is really organized and easy to navigate, and the option for either downloading or streaming is also really nice. If you need a podcast app this is 100% worth the money that it costs.
