A lot of apps mess up translation to or from Japanese. This one does a great job. I can only rate it based on the translation between those two languages because English and Japanese are the only two languages I know. So far in my testing it blows away google translate for this use case. Also it’s fast, and of course it also has the advantage of allowing you to speak and have your speech translated.

It’s not really clear if the app continues to be free after 7 days...or how to use the app without going PRO. Seems a bit disingenuous to me. App is deleted without use.

The first thing I tried to translate from English to Spanish was: "I think I helped a little, but not much". The translation came back as: "Creo que me ayudó un poco, pero no mucho" which translates to "I think it helped me a little, but not much". I tried several times and always got the same wrong result. I then tried the excellent Google Translate app with voice recognition and got the correct translation the first time: "Creo que ayudé un poco, pero no mucho". The app has a pretty nice interface. However, the initial attempt to up-sell the expensive Pro package is sneaky and certainly tricks some people into buying as is proved by all the one start reviews. Overall, I like the interface, but I don't trust the translations.

I use it with my work in AZ. I am slowly learning Spanish through the use of common phrases. I can actually converse through the app. It is an amazing tool.

  • Don’t click “continue” if you want the free app. Instead click the X.

The app seems to work well. But the set up process is very confusing and I believe deceptive. The developer needs to fix this to make it easier to understand how to choose between a paid and free app. During set up you are provided with a window that has a “continue” button that will automatically enroll you in a monthly subscription plan. There seems to be no other choice and there are no clear instructions on how to use the app for free other than the 7 day free period before the paid subscription begins. To use the free version of the app you have to dismiss the subscription window by clicking the “X” in the upper right corner of the window. Since this choice isn’t clearly delineated some people probably don’t know they have a choice or don’t fully understand what clicking the “continue” button means since it is the only obvious next step to set up the app. Perhaps this is why some reviewers believe they were scammed into subscribing. Perhaps they have a point.
